世界の女性アーティストによる創造力に溢れた表現を紹介する展覧会「Woman to Watch 2027」が米国ワシントンD.C.にあるNational Museum of Women in the Arts（NMWA）で予定されています。「本」をテーマに冠したその展覧会に、日本から５名のアーティストを推薦しました。本展は彼女たちそれぞれが知覚と思考を刺激する装置でもある「本」に想を得て生み出した作品を紹介します。 「本は、私たちの内なる凍った海を砕くための斧」でなくてはならないとフランツ・カフカは記しています。美術表現を通じて彼女たちが作り出すのは、記された歴史、記録、物語を超えて、私たちの視点を新たな思索の海へと誘ってくれるものです。書き手がいて読み手がいる。人との関係を紡ぐ「本」の可能性を、彼女たちの創作が広げます。
Woman to Watch 2027 celebrates the imaginative and generative expressions of women artists from around the world. Taking the book as its point of departure, five artists from Japan present works that engage the book as a device capable of stimulating perception and thought in distinct ways. Franz Kafka wrote that “a book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.” Moving beyond recorded histories, documents, and narratives, these artists invite us toward new seas of reflection. Where there is a writer, there is a reader; the works gathered here expand the possibilities of the book as a medium that weaves relationships among people.
